An Elden Ring player's unique challenge: conquering Messmer the Impaler daily until Elden Ring: Nightreign launches. This dedicated gamer, known as chickensandwich420, is documenting his remarkable feat.
A Daily Grind: No-Hit Messmer Battles
Instead of passively awaiting Nightreign's release, chickensandwich420 devised a challenging self-imposed task: defeating Messmer the Impaler daily on NG+7, using a different weapon each time and achieving a perfect no-hit run. This ambitious undertaking began on December 16, 2024. His initial plan involved various FromSoftware bosses, but his university studies limited his time.
Messmer, the notoriously difficult second boss in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, presents a significant hurdle. Players commonly report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal equipment. chickensandwich420's challenge is, therefore, incredibly demanding.
A June Deadline: A Contingency Plan
The player has set a self-imposed deadline of June 2025. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, he'll shift his focus to other games. This equates to over 160 Messmer battles. At the time of writing, he's on day 23.
Elden Ring: Nightreign, a three-player co-op spin-off set in the Elden Ring universe, was announced at The Game Awards 2024 with a projected 2025 release. However, FromSoftware's development timelines are notoriously unpredictable. The success of chickensandwich420's ambitious Messmer marathon hinges on Nightreign's timely arrival.
