In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, there's no direct sprint button; instead, your character will naturally transition into a sprint after a few steps of running. While sprinting is great for moving quickly across the battlefield, you'll often find yourself needing to cover vast distances to reach other officers in time to save them and secure victory.

This is where your trusty horse comes into play, which you can summon at any time during your adventures in the overworld or in the heat of battle. Not only does your horse help you get around faster, but you can also engage in combat from horseback, perfect for those who prefer swift, hit-and-run tactics. Let's dive into how you can unlock your first horse, level it up, and even swap it out for other steeds.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a breeze. You'll get it for free during Chapter 1 by chatting with a merchant who pops up in the overworld. After you've completed the second major battle, "Test Of Zheng Fei," the merchant will appear as you make your way to the Battle Of Guangzong. Head northeast from Wan Castle but before you reach the camp, and you'll spot the merchant standing next to his horse. Strike up a conversation with him, and he'll gift you your very own horse, which will automatically be equipped.

To summon your horse and mount up instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're on a console, or hit the 'V' key on your keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Leveling up your horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward but rewarding. Your horse gains XP whenever you complete missions or main story battles while it's equipped, regardless of whether you actually use it. Note that completing Skirmishes won't contribute to your horse's XP. Missions are marked with a red diamond featuring a soldier icon and are medium-length engagements. The total XP your horse earns is influenced by the battle's duration, how much you ride, and how frequently you use your horse to charge into enemies. As your horse levels up, it will unlock unique buffs at various intervals, with each horse offering different perks.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Your first horse comes pre-equipped, but you'll soon have the opportunity to acquire and switch to other horses. You can manage your horses in the Battle Preparation menu, which is the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse boasts unique perks, with some being faster and more advantageous than others, so it's worth considering a switch when you get a new one. To obtain new horses, you'll need to maximize the peace level of a region. Once you achieve this, a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
