Dune: Awakening Will Be an MMO With No Monthly Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening is set to launch with no monthly subscription, a decision that sets it apart from other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, World of Warcraft, and EVE Online. Funcom, the developer behind this highly anticipated game, has shared exciting updates about its upcoming release and the various editions players can pre-order.

Dune: Awakening Coming on May 20

No Early Access and No Monthly Subscription

Dune: Awakening will see its full release on May 20, bypassing the early access phase. In a detailed blog post on Steam dated March 21, Funcom elaborated on the game's business model, system requirements, and plans for post-launch content.

The game, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic 1965 novel, will not require a monthly subscription. Instead, Funcom plans to keep the game evolving through free updates that will introduce new content, features, and enhancements. This approach reflects Funcom's commitment to long-term support, drawing on their experience with other live service games such as Anarchy Online, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary next year, and Conan Exiles, which continues to receive regular updates and expansions.
