Dragon Quest 12 Information to Be Revealed 'Little by Little,' Series Creator Yuji Horii Says

Dragon Quest XII is in development, with information to be released gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the game.

This update follows a May 2024 announcement acknowledging the passing of Dragon Quest character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama, and the departure of lead producer Yu Miyake to head Square Enix's mobile game division. Previous concerns about the game's cancellation, fueled by Square Enix restructuring and a lack of updates, seem to be alleviated by Horii's statement.

The only visual currently available for Dragon Quest XII is this logo, unveiled in 2021.
Initially announced as part of the series' 35th-anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest XII will be the first mainline entry since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has recently reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales expectations, achieving over 2 million copies sold.
