Destiny 1 Receives Unexpected Update After Seven Years

Destiny 1's Tower Receives Unexpected Festive Makeover

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's original Tower social space has received a surprising update, adorned with lights and decorations. This unexpected addition, noticed by players on January 5th, has sparked considerable speculation within the community. The original Destiny, while still playable, largely ceded its spotlight to Destiny 2 in 2017.

While Destiny 2 continues to thrive with regular updates and expansions, many players still hold fond memories of the original game. Bungie has regularly incorporated legacy content into Destiny 2, including classic raids and exotic weapons. However, this latest development in Destiny 1 is entirely unexpected.

The update features Ghost-shaped lights reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning, although the overall atmosphere differs, lacking the snow and featuring unique banners. Crucially, no in-game prompts or quests accompany the decorations, adding to the mystery.

A Ghost of Events Past?

The lack of official explanation from Bungie has fueled numerous fan theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, have pointed to a cancelled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Unused assets from this scrapped event closely resemble the current decorations in the Tower. The prevailing theory suggests a forgotten future date was assigned to the event's assets, with Bungie likely assuming Destiny 1 would be offline by then.

As of this writing, Bungie remains silent on the matter. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This unexpected festive makeover in Destiny 1 offers players a unique, albeit temporary, experience before Bungie inevitably removes it. Enjoy the surprise while it lasts!
