Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin's Creed Shadows: What to Choose?

By LiamApr 12,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice weighs heavily on the game's narrative, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission carries significant consequences for the rest of your campaign. Both characters provide reasons to be suspicious during the tea ceremony, yet there is a definitive choice that simplifies the mission considerably.

After the tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, you should confront Wakasa, as she is the true Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Confronting her directly leads to the easiest resolution of her identity and allows you to eliminate her swiftly.

Upon confronting Wakasa, she will invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Once inside, you'll notice a kasa (straw hat) hanging on her wall—the same one she wore during the prologue as the Onryo. This subtle clue confirms you've targeted the right person. After some dialogue, the scene unfolds, allowing Naoe to take Wakasa's Teppo from the wall and shoot her at point-blank range, quickly concluding the mission.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

If you mistakenly decide to confront Otama after the tea ceremony, you will still be able to kill Wakasa, but the path to her demise becomes significantly more challenging. Choosing Otama leads Naoe to pursue and kill her, only to find a letter that reveals Otama's corruption. However, this delay allows Wakasa to fortify her position in Osaka Castle with her soldiers.

To reach Wakasa, you must then travel to Osaka Castle and either fight through her soldiers or attempt a stealthy approach. If you have unlocked the nearby Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, this journey becomes somewhat easier, though you'll still face standard enemies. Even if you manage to sneak up on Wakasa, a straightforward assassination won't suffice, forcing you into at least a one-on-one confrontation.

While the boss fight isn't overly difficult, choosing to confront Wakasa directly after the tea ceremony avoids unnecessary complications and offers a more satisfying cinematic kill, especially given her role in Naoe's father's death.

Now that you're aware of the optimal choice during the Tea Ceremony mission, enhance your gameplay by learning how to gain XP and level up quickly in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*. This will prepare you for the game's tougher challenges. Additionally, discover strategies to earn more Knowledge Points, enabling you to unlock advanced skills for Naoe and Yasuke.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
