Jake Staley, the composer behind HBO’s critically acclaimed *The Last of Us* TV series, has confirmed that fans can expect “at least two more seasons,” hinting strongly at the likelihood of a fourth season. Speaking on *The Last of Us: Savage Starlight* podcast, Staley teased, “There’ll be at least two more seasons, no question. At least. That’s all I’m gonna say.”
This revelation aligns with recent comments from showrunner Craig Mazin, who previously suggested that wrapping up the full narrative arc of *The Last of Us* within just three seasons would be nearly impossible. As Mazin explained, Season 3 “would take forever” to cover everything, meaning a fourth season may well be necessary to properly conclude the story drawn from the Naughty Dog-developed games.
HBO has also praised the continued success of *The Last of Us*, noting that Season 2 brought in a surge of new viewers and helped push the series’ global audience past the 90 million mark since the end of Season 1. However, the network pointed out that the Season 2 finale faced lower-than-expected ratings due to the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Mazin and co-creator Neil Druckmann have also admitted they’re still uncertain about the future roles of some beloved characters, stating they don’t yet know “how much, or rather how little” certain figures will appear in upcoming seasons.
