If there's one thing you can say about mobile developer AppSir, it's that their games always deliver a unique indie experience that's worth exploring. From our glowing review of Spooky Pixel Hero to their latest release, Climb Knight, AppSir consistently hits the mark with distinct and engaging gameplay. And now, Climb Knight is set to receive a major update on February 25th that promises to add even more excitement to this quirky one-bit platformer.
You might be thinking, "Didn't you already cover Climb Knight?" Yes, we did, and we gave it a fairly positive review. Interestingly, AppSir was genuinely surprised by the warm reception Climb Knight received, and in celebration, they're rolling out a free update that's packed with new content. So, what's included in this update? Three new one-bit minigames and an intriguing new advisor character inspired by Apple Newton shareware. Given AppSir's history with spooky releases, there's likely more to this advisor and the new gameplay than meets the eye.
Climbing up
AppSir proves that dedicated indie developers can break the mold and achieve popularity on mobile platforms. While they may not be the "New Blood" of smartphones, their work shares similarities with the excellent Faith trilogy, especially in the spooky, retro aesthetic of their back catalog.
