Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'

By ZacharyFeb 26,2025

Civilization VII has arrived, and a key question for veteran players is: where's Gandhi? A staple of the series since 1991, his absence is notable.

Gandhi's omission isn't due to oversight, according to Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach. He assures fans that Gandhi's inclusion is planned, likely as DLC.

Beach explains that Firaxis has a broader roadmap for DLC, prioritizing some civilizations over others. He points out that even historically significant civilizations like Mongolia and Persia were absent from previous base games. The decision to omit certain leaders in the base game allows for the inclusion of fresh, exciting options.

While Gandhi's absence is temporary, his eventual return is confirmed.

Currently, Firaxis is addressing player feedback regarding Civilization VII's mixed Steam reviews. Concerns include the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative reviews in a recent IGN interview, but expressed confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game more with continued play, describing the initial performance as "very encouraging."
