How to Capture Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Slaying monsters is exhilarating, but sometimes you need their parts, which means capturing them. Here's how to capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Capturing Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds is straightforward. Weaken the monster, trap it, then use a tranquilizer item. Simple, right?

Your Palico will alert you when a monster is weak. Other indicators include a skull icon above the monster on your minimap, and the monster will limp or drool, showing its low HP.

Once weak, set your trap. Use a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, placing it on the ground and luring the monster over. Once trapped, the monster is incapacitated for a short time – your chance to use Tranq Bombs. One or two should suffice. Alternatively, craft Tranq Ammo or Tranq Blades, depending on your weapon and style.

Capturing a monster ends the quest, returning you to Base Camp.

How to Get Traps and Tranq Items

While your Palico might occasionally set traps, it's best to bring your own. There are two trap types: Pitfall Traps and Shock Traps. Pitfall Traps require a Trap Tool and a Net (Spiderwebs or Ivy). Shock Traps need a Trap Tool and a Thunderbug Capacitor.

For tranquilizer items, craft Tranq Bombs using a Sleep Herb and a Parashroom. These can be combined with Throwing Knives or Normal Ammo to create Tranq Blades and Tranq Ammo respectively.
