By RyanMay 05,2025

After a remarkable 25-year hiatus, Capcom’s beloved role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to the PC platform. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by Europe in 2001, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. Now, thanks to GOG's ongoing Preservation Program, fans can enjoy this classic fully updated for modern PCs, released DRM-free on their platform.

In Breath of Fire IV, players follow the journey of Ryu, a protagonist who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a group of valiant warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor’s sinister plot to destroy the world.

The enhanced version of the game is optimized for contemporary systems, ensuring compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. It features both English and Japanese localizations, and boasts improved graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer. New display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction elevate the visual experience. Additionally, the audio engine has been overhauled, bringing back missing environmental sounds and introducing new configuration options for a more immersive experience.
