Where to Buy Xbox Series X and S Consoles Before the Price Hike

By VioletMay 17,2025

Microsoft has recently announced a price increase for Xbox consoles, controllers, and upcoming first-party games. The new recommended retail prices for hardware are effective immediately, while the $79.99 price tag for new first-party games will be implemented this holiday season. If you're considering purchasing an Xbox Series X|S or a new controller, now is the time to act, as the new, higher prices are already reflected on Xbox's official store. However, savvy shoppers might still find the older, lower prices at select retailers for a limited time.

Xbox Series X 1TB Digital Edition - $449 (Going Up to $549 Soon)

The Xbox Series X stands as the flagship model, boasting the power to run games at stunning 4K resolution. As an avid gamer, I find its performance even more impressive than that of the PS5. For those who cherish the tactile experience of physical media, the standard model is the way to go. However, if you're comfortable with a fully digital library, the Digital Edition offers a $50 saving, making it an attractive option.

Xbox Series S

Xbox Series S - 512GB

Xbox Series S 512GB - $299 (Going Up to $379 Soon)

Xbox Series S 1TB - $349 (Going Up to $429 Soon)

For gamers ready to dive into an all-digital future, the Xbox Series S offers an affordable entry point. Keep in mind, though, that it's less powerful, designed for gameplay at 1440p resolution rather than 4K. If that resolution suits your gaming needs, the Series S is an excellent choice. It's available in both 512GB and 1TB models. Given the ever-increasing size of modern games, I'd recommend opting for the 1TB version to avoid running out of storage space too quickly.

Xbox Wireless Controllers

Certain Xbox controllers are also facing a price hike, though not all models will see an increase. The pricing on controllers has been more dynamic than that of the consoles, so the impact of these changes might be less noticeable. Here are the updated prices for Xbox controllers:

  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) - $64.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (Color) - $69.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller - Special Edition - $79.99
  • Xbox Wireless Controller - Limited Edition - $89.99 (up from $79.99)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Core) - $149.99 (up from $139.99)
  • Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 (Full) - $199.99 (up from $179.99)
