The box office disappointment M3GAN 2.0 is now available digitally as of July 15, following a brief three-week theatrical run. Concurrently, reports have surfaced that Blumhouse has undergone a round of staff reductions.
M3GAN 2.0 earned $10.2 million domestically and a mere $6.958 million internationally during its opening weekend, suggesting that the original M3GAN film, released in December 2022, may have been a unique success, eventually grossing $180 million worldwide.
IGN’s M3GAN 2.0 review gave it a 6/10. Our assessment stated: “M3GAN 2.0 shifts from horror to sci-fi/action with uneven outcomes, but M3GAN's outrageously sharp wit and lethal dance moves ensure she remains the star, not the new genre elements.”
M3GAN herself took to social media to announce the digital release, stating: "They said this version of me was too much for theaters. Interpret that as you wish." The digital version launches today, July 15, with a physical release scheduled for September 23.
To date, M3GAN 2.0 has generated a modest global total of $36,496,600 during its time in theaters, according to Box Office Mojo. This includes $22,446,600 from domestic markets and only $14,050,000 internationally.

In related news, Blumhouse has let go of six employees across its film, television, and casting departments, as reported by Deadline. The outlet noted that Blumhouse, which employs roughly 100 people, eliminated positions among junior-level executives and support staff. However, Deadline clarified that none of the affected executives were involved with M3GAN 2.0.
Earlier this month, Blumhouse head Jason Blum addressed the troubled launch of M3GAN 2.0, acknowledging several missteps. Speaking on the most recent episode of The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast to share his initial reflections, Blum admitted: “I’ve been in pain all weekend, dwelling on these issues far more than I should.”
“We assumed M3GAN was as versatile as Superman,” he explained. “We believed we could alter her in any way—change her genre, release her in the summer, modify her appearance, or even transform her from villain to hero. We fundamentally overestimated how deeply audiences were actually connected to her.
“We chose to switch genres. The audience wasn't prepared for that change. Viewers simply wanted more of M3GAN as they knew her.”
This refers to M3GAN 2.0 leaning more toward action comedy rather than the thriller-horror style of the original. Evidently, this shift did not resonate. Blumhouse is set to release Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 this December.
