Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been nothing short of phenomenal.
Over a Million Mods Installed in Under 24 Hours
Larian CEO Swen Vincke announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within the first day of Patch 7's release on September 5th. This figure was quickly surpassed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reporting over 3 million installs and counting! "Modding is pretty big," Vincke stated, underlining the game's impressive modding potential.
Patch 7's Impact: More Than Just Mods
Patch 7 didn't just introduce robust modding capabilities. It also delivered new evil endings, improved split-screen functionality, and Larian's official Mod Manager—a user-friendly in-game tool for browsing, installing, and managing mods. The existing modding tools, available separately on Steam, empower creators to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language.
Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon
While Larian initially restricted access to certain development tools, a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" now offers a full level editor and reactivates previously disabled features. Larian is actively developing cross-platform modding support, a significant undertaking that will eventually bring modding capabilities to consoles. Vincke confirmed that PC support will come first, followed by consoles after necessary testing and submission processes.
Beyond modding, Patch 7 also boasts numerous quality-of-life improvements, including refined UI elements, enhanced animations, expanded dialogue options, and extensive bug fixes and performance optimizations. With further updates planned, the future of Baldur's Gate 3 modding looks exceptionally bright.
