Avowed

A decaying knight statue, its armor consumed by real-life mushrooms, has mysteriously appeared in London. This haunting installation, courtesy of Xbox, serves as a chilling pre-release promotion for Avowed, immersing onlookers in the game's grim Dreamscourge infection. Accompanying posters for the Xbox Series X|S title complete the immersive street scene, transforming a mundane London street into a portal to Avowed's world.

Xbox has released a behind-the-scenes video on YouTube, documenting the creation of this striking installation.

Meanwhile, Avowed has already garnered significant praise. A remarkable 81% of Deluxe Edition players on Steam recommended it before launch, generating considerable anticipation for today's Standard Edition release.

Gaming journalist Jason Schreier shared his enthusiastic appraisal, highlighting the game's world design, narrative, and combat, but particularly its exploration:

"Avowed has me hooked. Obsidian’s storytelling and combat were expectedly strong, but it’s the world’s design that stands out. Every pathway leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and there’s always a hidden detail waiting to be found. Even after 40 hours, I keep coming back."

Schreier also observed a divergence between critical reception and player response, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas:

"Some of the reviews surprise me. It’s the same situation as Fallout: New Vegas—critics were split, but players turned it into a legend. Avowed could follow a similar trajectory."

Given Fallout: New Vegas’ initial Metacritic score of 83 and its subsequent elevation to classic status, the possibility of Avowed charting a similar course towards RPG greatness is certainly intriguing.
