Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance your weapons and armor.

Upgrade Locations: Workbenches and Party Camps

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones scattered throughout the game world. Interact with an Adra Waystone to set up a camp; these will appear on your map as tent icons, enabling fast travel. Upgrades require various materials, readily obtainable through exploration, crafting, or rarer Adra for quality increases.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels

Gear in Avowed uses a two-tiered system to determine power:

• Quality: Represented by numerical values, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and descriptive adjectives. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Lower quality gear is ineffective against stronger foes.

• Additional Upgrade Tiers (+0 to +3): Within each Quality level, three additional upgrade tiers exist. While less impactful than Quality increases, these still boost stats. All three must be completed before advancing to the next Quality.

Here's a breakdown of weapon qualities:

• Common: Green, Level I
• Fine: Blue, Level II
• Exceptional: Purple, Level III
• Superb: Red, Level IV
• Legendary: Gold, Level V

Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear

Avowed features two gear types:

• Standard: Commonly found as loot or purchased from merchants. These can only be upgraded to Superb Quality.

• Unique: Named items obtained from quests, boss drops, or specific merchants. These can reach Legendary Quality and possess unique bonuses and perks.

Strategic Upgrade Advice: Focus your resources on upgrading Unique weapons and armor. Standard gear serves as temporary equipment; sell or dismantle it for resources to enhance your Unique items.
