Obsidian's Avowed, now available in early access, plunges players into the Living Lands, promising magical encounters, perilous adventures, and surprisingly, the potential for romance.
Prior to release, Obsidian clarified that Avowed wouldn't include a traditional romance system, instead prioritizing the development of "meaningful relationships" with companions. Avowed Game Director Carrie Patel, in an IGN interview, elaborated: "We are building thoughtful relationships with our companion characters," she stated. "While I personally favor offering romance as an option, it requires significant commitment to ensure authenticity and player engagement. Therefore, it's not a feature in Avowed, but I wouldn't rule it out for future titles."
However, initial player feedback and reviews reveal at least one companion, Kai, displays romantic interest in the player character. Major spoilers for interactions with Kai follow. Proceed with caution.
