Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis

By CarterApr 25,2025

The Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is a core feature that intricately connects every resource you gather and weapon you craft. Mastering this system is crucial for maximizing your gameplay experience. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to make the most of it.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: This is conducted at an Alchemist's altar and is used for crafting weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials required for other Synthesis processes. Early in the game, you unlock the Atelier, which allows you to return and Synthesize at any time. Additionally, you can build Simple Altars on cleared manabound zones and campsites to facilitate regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible through the radial menu outside of battle, Simple Synthesis lets you craft essential items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and repair kits for treasure chests and ladders, provided you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Though not directly labeled as Synthesis, this mode, accessible through the radial menu on specific plots of land, allows you to craft storage chests and wall hangings. The game's narrative may still refer to this process as Synthesis.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex aspect of the game. Here’s how you can craft, for example, a gun staff for Yumia:

  1. Find the recipe while exploring the world.
  2. Upgrade existing gun staff recipes at a Recipe Recall Station using particles from mana fountains.
  3. At an Alchemist's altar, select the type of gun staff you want to create.
  4. Choose Synthesis Skills if they are unlocked in the skill tree.
  5. Select the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core: Increases the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core: Enhances the quality level of the completed item.
    • Trait Alchemy Core: Boosts the number of Trait Crystal slots available for socketing.
  6. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with collected resources.
  7. Collect mana fragments to further increase the item's quality.
  8. Complete the Synthesis process to craft the item.

To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the Synthesis section of the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills provide boosts to damage and quality and allow you to duplicate items, conserving resources.

To enhance item quality, you can add resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to navigate and fill slots within a specific core. Collecting mana fragments (yellow sparkles around the cores) for all three will significantly boost the item's strength, ideal for non-quest items.

When selecting resources, prioritize those that match the element type of the specific slots, identified by a blue outline. You can also organize your resources in the submenu to select higher-quality ones first, though you might want to focus on effects instead.

If the complexity of manual Synthesis overwhelms you, opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after choosing your Synthesis Skills. The game efficiently crafts the best possible item, enabling you to tackle even the final boss on Normal difficulty with relative ease.

That covers everything you need to know to optimize the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land*.
