If you've sought iOS App Store alternatives, your options have been limited due to Apple's tight control. However, following legal battles and the Epic Games Store's iOS arrival, Aptoide has emerged. We previously covered Aptoide's beta in mid-2024. Now, all EU iOS users can download it for free.
While Aptoide boldly claims to be the first alternative storefront, the Epic Games Store predates it (in full release). Aptoide's distinction lies in its broader app selection beyond gaming, and its unique feature allowing users to choose specific app versions—a feature previously exclusive to Android users.
My previous comments might seem skeptical, but Aptoide has a strong claim, particularly considering its beta period. The Epic Games Store, while not owned by Apple or Google, is still a major player. Aptoide represents a truly independent alternative.
