Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

By SamuelMay 03,2025

In the action-packed world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is key to mastering the game. One of the more advanced techniques you can use is anointing, which allows you to upgrade your amulets and Waystones. However, this feature becomes available only later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions, which you can obtain from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the first game, you might see these as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random assortment of these emotions. Alternatively, you can engage in currency exchange or use the trade market to obtain them. For those looking to refine their collection, the Reforging Bench allows you to upgrade Distilled Emotions. By combining three of the same type, you can create an upgraded version, giving you more control over which emotions you acquire.

For a more challenging approach, you might try farming Distilled Emotions through Simulacrum waves, though this method is less efficient and demands a robust build due to its higher difficulty.

How to Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* currently applies to amulets and Waystones, though future updates might expand this feature. To anoint an amulet, choose any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place the amulet in the central box, followed by a Distilled Emotion in each of the three bottom boxes. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are displayed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect is not permanent. You can always re-anoint an amulet to adapt to your evolving build, with the new skill overriding the old one.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty and, in turn, improve the loot they yield. Keep in mind, though, that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With these insights, you're now equipped to leverage anointing to enhance your amulets or challenge yourself with tougher Waystones in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
