Android Telefónica Devices Embracing Epic Games Store Integration

By BrooklynJan 18,2025

Epic Games and Telefónica have forged a significant partnership, resulting in the pre-installation of the Epic Games Store (EGS) on Android devices sold by Telefónica. This affects millions of users across various Telefónica brands, including O2 in the UK, Movistar, and Vivo in other regions. The EGS will now be a default app store option alongside Google Play.

This seemingly minor detail represents a substantial strategic move by Epic. The key advantage is convenience. Many users are unaware of, or unconcerned with, alternative app stores beyond the pre-installed options. By securing a deal with a major telecoms operator like Telefónica, Epic gains significant visibility and immediate access to a vast user base in key markets such as Spain, the UK, Germany, and Latin America.

This partnership, described as a first step, builds upon a previous collaboration in 2021 that brought the O2 Arena into Fortnite. For Epic, locked in a protracted legal battle with Apple and Google, this represents a significant breakthrough. This strategic move could yield substantial future benefits for both Epic Games and, hopefully, for mobile users.
