2XKO: A Revolutionary Tag-Team Gaming Experience Arrives

Riot Games' highly anticipated 2XKO (formerly Project L) is poised to revolutionize the tag-team fighting game genre. This innovative title introduces a unique four-player co-op experience, dramatically altering the traditional 2v2 dynamic. Dive into the details of its groundbreaking Duo Play system and the exciting Alpha Lab Playtest.

Redefining Tag-Team Combat with Duo Play

2XKO, showcased at EVO 2024, departs from conventional tag fighters. Instead of one player controlling both characters, Duo Play allows two players to team up, each controlling a champion. This results in thrilling 2v2 matches featuring four players simultaneously. Each team consists of a Point character and an Assist character, with the potential for exciting 2v1 showdowns as well.

The innovative tag system offers three key mechanics:

  • Assist Actions: The Point character can call upon the Assist for powerful special moves.
  • Handshake Tag: A seamless role swap between Point and Assist characters.
  • Dynamic Save: The Assist can intervene to break up enemy combos, adding a layer of strategic depth.

Unlike traditional tag fighters where a single knockout ends the match, 2XKO requires both players on a team to be defeated. Even after being knocked out, fallen champions remain active as Assists, providing crucial support.

Strategic Synergy: The Fuse System

Beyond choosing character colors, 2XKO introduces "Fuses"—powerful synergy options that allow teams to customize their playstyles. The playable demo showcased five Fuses:

  • PULSE: Rapid attacks unleash devastating combos.
  • FURY: Below 40% health: increased damage and special dash cancel.
  • FREESTYLE: Execute two Handshake Tags in quick succession.
  • DOUBLE DOWN: Combine ultimate moves for devastating results.
  • 2X ASSIST: Empower your partner with multiple assist actions.

Game designer Daniel Maniago highlights the Fuse System's role in amplifying player expression and enabling devastating combos, especially for synchronized duos.

Champion Selection and Alpha Lab Playtest

The playable demo featured six champions from the League of Legends universe: Braum, Ahri, Darius, Ekko, Yasuo, and Illaoi, each with unique moves reflecting their League of Legends counterparts. While Jinx and Katarina were absent from the Alpha Lab Playtest, their inclusion is confirmed for the future.

2XKO, a free-to-play title launching on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2025, is currently accepting registrations for its Alpha Lab Playtest (August 8-19). Don't miss your chance to experience this revolutionary tag-team fighter!
