11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has recently unveiled a new trailer for their much-anticipated sci-fi adventure game, The Alters, which is gearing up for its release in 2025. Amidst the excitement, the studio took a moment to reminisce about their groundbreaking title, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international fame more than a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is celebrated for its somber and bleak portrayal of wartime survival, The Alters introduces a more vibrant and frequently humorous narrative. It focuses on the trials and tribulations of different versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite the stark contrast in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games: survival.
In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the gritty reality of surviving a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group of civilians alive. On the other hand, The Alters reimagines survival as a frantic race against time, where players must maneuver a mobile base to escape the destructive reach of a relentless sun that obliterates everything in its path.
Both titles challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into perilous environments to gather essential resources. The main distinction is in the protagonists: This War of Mine focuses on a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters revolves around a team made up of alternate versions of Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, it will also be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, offering subscribers immediate access to this innovative survival adventure.
